Day 300 – 7/30/24

Starting location: Anchored in Port Rawson Bay in 30,000 islands area of Northern Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada

Weather: 69 am, 76 pm, overcast, brief thunder and lightning in am, heavy rain overnight

Ending location: Moored at docks at Henry’s Fish Restaurant on Frying Pan Island in 30,000 islands area of Northern Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada

Statute miles: Approximately 11

General summary: We continued to follow the well-protected small craft channel, winding around rock outcroppings and numerous small islands and shorelines dotted with cottages. We wanted to stop at Henry’s Restaurant on Frying Pan Island as it seemed like a unique place and it is pretty much the only game in town for miles. Locals rave about the fish n chips. The fish is reportedly caught daily in local waters and is called Pickerel (Walleye in the US). The restaurant also runs a marina with 8 long side-tie docks and room for up to 50 boats where you can stay for free for a meal or pay to stay overnight. Reasonably priced (and a 10% meal discount for paid moorage). They had gas, dockside power and potable water, bathrooms, and an ice cream shop. Pretty amazing in such a remote location. The restaurant had an indoor seating area and an open deck with picnic tables where dogs were allowed. The fish n chips were, indeed, delicious and it felt like we were getting pampered with all the services. A shower would have been nice, but we had been swimming a bunch so felt reasonably clean. Somewhat windy with hard rain overnight, so nice to be in a secure location. Very quiet and peaceful.

You’re seeing so many places most of us will never encounter. The world you are seeing is a wonderful and varied place that most of us will only visit in your blogs. Love to the three of you.
