Day 254 – 6/14/24

Starting location: Free dock at Ole Savannah Southern Table & Bar, Kingston, NY

Weather: 54 am, 78 pm, partly to mostly cloudy with minimal rain and distant thunder in afternoon

Ending location: Moored at Catskill Marina, Catskill, NY

Statute miles: 23

General summary: Motored on North and then West up Catskill Creek, to a marina nicely protected from wind and wakes. This area is part of what was termed the “Borscht Belt” where there were summer resorts frequented mostly by New Yorkers of Jewish heritage during the 1920-1960s. Grossinger’s Catskill Resort, previously located near this town, was apparently the inspiration for Kellerman’s, the fictional location for the movie “Dirty Dancing”. Unfortunately, Grossinger’s closed in 1986, partially burned in an accidental fire, and then was completely demolished for alternative development (not yet started). I would have definitely tried to find it otherwise.

The wind blew cottonwood puffs around as a thunderstorm passed us in the evening and it looked like a snowstorm for a bit.
