Day 214 – 5/5/24

Starting location: Solomon’s Island Yacht Club docks, Solomon’s Island, MD

Ending location: Anchorage on Saint Leonard Creek on the NorthEast side of the Patuxent River by Jefferson Patterson Park, MD.

General summary: I should probably explain why we bypassed the Potomac River, which is just South of the Patuxent and takes you all the way to downtown DC. It is a great way to see all the sites – the Smithsonian Museums, the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and many other things. Tom isn’t very enthusiastic about big cities and museums and I, having grown up not far from the capitol, have been there more times than I have digits (school field trips, family visitors, conferences, etc.). Plus, it is quite a distance up the river and would take a fair amount of time and gasoline. So, we bypassed it. Would definitely recommend a week or more there if you have never been.

We felt like having a bit of solitude and connection with nature after many towns, marina stops, and some socializing, so found a nice anchorage next to a park. Had it all to ourselves. It was a foggy morning with some drizzle, which reminded us a bit of home. Dinghied over to a sandy beach and walked the trail, which follows the river then goes inland for a re-created Native village and a footprint of a settler’s home.
