Day 186-187 – 4/7-8/24

Starting location: Leland Oil Company Marina, Mclelland, SC

Weather: 43 am, 68 pm, mostly sunny – Sunday 4/7. 48 am, 73 pm, sunny – Monday 4/8.

Ending location: Moored in Hazzard Marina, Georgetown, SC. Off MM 403 AICW.

Statute miles: Approximately 28

General summary: We need to do an oil change and lower gear case maintenance every 100 miles. This requires a boat lift (last done in the Keys) and we were due. Able to schedule the hoist at Hazzard Marina, who helped arrange a mechanic to do the work. This town is also a good spot just off the ICW. We walked about town. Visited the mariner’s museum. Motor work was done timely and successfully.

Historic downtown Georgetown
Fountain for dogs (bottom bowl) and horses (top)

There was an eclipse the second day of our stay. We weren’t in the path of totality, but some nice ladies on the dock let us view it through their glasses.

Sun looks a little irregular
Shined sunlight through a pinhole
Close-up view

Boater information: Hazzard Marina has gas (diesel and regular), floating wooden docks in good shape, dockside power and water, bathrooms, showers, laundry. About a mile walk to Piggly Wiggly.

Ailsa and I just got back from our spring vacation in CA, so now I can catch up on your blog. I’m sorta surprised you weren’t in the path of totality, but I guess you weren’t far enough north. CA was not really impacted at all as far as I could tell. I literally saw one person checking out the situation with eclipse glasses, and that was it. At least we did have clear skies, which I guess many places in the path of totality did not.
