Day 68 – 12/10/23

Starting location: Steinhatchee Marina at Deadman Bay, Steinhatchee, FL

Weather: Sunday – low 60s am. Light cloud cover. Wind picked up and cloud cover increased. Rain. Lightning and thunder. High 60s pm.

Ending location: same

Statute miles: 0

General summary: Recovery day #2, both of us hampered a bit by mild hangovers. Weather noticeably changed. Did not warm up much. Wind increased substantially even in our protected spot, though not to any dangerous levels. A system that went through Tennessee yesterday and hit Clarksville (where we stayed on our trip to and from Nashville) with a tornado was heading East towards us. Not sure if that marina area was affected. We were under tornado watch here until 5pm. Heavy rain, thunder, and lighting for a few hours, then quit. No tornado! Monday is a definite no-go for moving on as there is a small craft advisory all day.

Tom’s dental problem is now solved for a bit. If you are squeamish, don’t read further. He had an implant placed a few months ago and then a tooth put on just before we departed. He started having pain there just after we left and then swelling. Saw the dentist in Shalimar last week, who took X-rays and then put him on antibiotics. Yesterday afternoon, he had significant worsening and the tooth started to move down. We called his home dentist and oral surgeon, who reviewed the films. There is no dentist, urgent care, or pharmacy in this town. No courtesy or rental car. As it continued to worsen, their advice was to pull it. It was already on the way out, so the oral surgeon advised it shouldn’t hurt too much and would likely come out easily. So I did. He is much better now and I still have the heebie-jeebies. It should heal up just fine and he can have a new implant placed in a few months, or wait until we get home.

Evidence

If we end up staying for another week (or two) due to weather I’m going to do another multi-day post, so if we go silent for awhile, assume we are hanging out in Steinhatchee. I will post again when we move on.

Hope you have better weather soon. Love to the three of you. You’re using your medical skills it looks like. Wondering if you pull or unscrew the implant.

Oh my gosh, I wish I didn’t see that tooth!!
Hope the patient is doing well. There is nothing worse being so far from home and medical issues pop up. Thank God there is a doctor on board.
Loving you travel stories and experiences.
Safe travels, hugs to all 3 of you.

All I can say is poor Tom – and poor you! Glad you both survived the experience relatively unscathed!
