Day 37 – 11/9/23

Starting location: Anchorage by Dwayne Hayes Campground, MS

Weather: 60 am, mostly cloudy. High in upper 70s. A little drizzle on and off.

Ending location: Columbus Marina, Columbus, MS. MM 335 on the Ten-Tom

General summary: We tend to plan our travels in the evening after dinner looking ahead a few days at weather, winds, locks, anchorages, and marinas while keeping in mind distances and our need for services (water, fuel, pump out, groceries, laundry, showers). Generally, we like to do an anchorage or two (sometimes three) between marina stops. We also have been periodically checking for hurricane development and there has been absolutely no concerning activity in the last few days. We hadn’t realized until last night that there were no marinas between Columbus, MS (5 miles away) and Demopolis, AL (127 miles away). Probably a good idea to stop at the Columbus Marina to get gas and groceries, plus deal with the other stuff since we’ll likely be anchoring out until Demopolis. After breakfast and a shore walk at the campground we pulled up anchor and motored the short 5 miles to Columbus Marina. Took care of business. Met other loopers and planned flotilla for tomorrow.

Boater information: Columbus Marina has one of the friendliest and most helpful marina managers. He clearly likes Loopers and wants you to have a good experience. Call for a reservation, as they don’t use Dockwa. There is gas (diesel and non-ethanol regular), power, pump-out, water, laundry, showers, courtesy car. Great Wifi. Verizon coverage has been better the last day or two.
