Day 299 -7/29/24

Starting location: Anchored just South of Woods Bay in 30,000 islands area of Northern Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada

Weather: 64 am, 84 pm, sunny

Ending location: Anchored in Port Rawson Bay in 30,000 islands area of Northern Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada

Statute miles: Approximately 12

General summary: Moved on to a set of overnight bays further North in the Massasauga Provincial Park. The draw was the lack of cottages, 4 mooring buoys, numerous places to anchor without having to worry about trespassing, and a 6 mile trail that would take us past Calhoun Lodge. You can tour the cottages there to see “a fine example of mid-1900s cottage life on Georgian Bay”. We found a secluded anchorage in Port Rawson Bay near shore where we could dinghy to the trailhead. There was an old dock that had been beached, which looked promising for the location. Well, after bushwhacking about a mile, we found what appeared to be the trail with some pink ribbon blazing fallen on the ground, but this ended about another mile in. The trail disappeared and we were sweating due to the humidity, so backtracked and called it a day. This trail is clearly not maintained from this starting point. Looks like there is a shorter trail with a better trailhead not far from our prior anchorage which might have worked better. We went swimming three times. Lovely secluded spot.

Signs indicated bays where you could overnight and go to shore on park land.
