Day 290 – 7/20/24

Starting location: On wall at Severn, before lock #45, last lock of the Trent-Severn Waterway, Ontario, Canada.

Weather: 58 am, 79 pm, sunny

Ending location: Moored at Midland Harbour Town Docks, Midland, Ontario, Canada.

Statute miles: Approximately 10

General summary: At this point, we needed a marina stop in a city for the usual stuff – gas, pump out, power, water, showers, provisions – before heading out further into Georgian Bay where services would be more sparse. Midland had it all. Also had a bookstore where I found a good cruising guide for this area. The town has a lot of murals, promoted by the merchants of the Downtown Midland Business Improvement Association since 1990. The biggest (reported to be the largest outdoor historic mural in North America at 80 x 250 feet) and most obvious is seen upon approaching the marina. Per the tourism handout “it depicts a Jesuit Priest and a Huron Native gazing from a hilltop over the Wye Valley as it appeared in 1640”.
