Day 258 – 6/18/24

Starting location: Free wall at Whitehall, NY.

Weather: 66 am, 92 pm, partly cloudy

Ending location: Anchored on West side of Valcour Island, NY on Lake Champlain.

Statute miles: Approximately 80

General summary: There was a heat wave predicted, with temps in the 90s, so we decided to motor North to get to Lake Champlain. For two reasons. One – it was going to be 5-10 degrees cooler there. Two – we could swim off the boat to cool off. It was a long day of motoring, but we made it to our planned anchorage. There was a sandy beach to which I dinghied Cocoa and we both had a nice swim (though chilly as water temp in mid 60s). Tom went in off the swim platform on the boat.

Lock 12. Last lock of Champlain Canal.
Canal after lock, not yet in lake
This contraption harvests weeds from the lake to clear paths for boating
Adirondack mountains in the distance
Anchorage. About 10 boats here overnight.
