General summary: This day’s travel took us through another protected canal to the Alligator River that allowed us to avoid Pamlico Sound again and the big water by Cape Hatteras. We have chosen to avoid the outer islands because of the risk for large chop but also because the weather as we have come North is too cold for swimming. I also went to Cape Hatteras during a spring break in college, so have been there. We will unfortunately miss visiting Kitty Hawk and seeing the Wright Brothers first flight stuff.
We tied up at Alligator River Marina just South of Albemarle Sound in preparation for crossing tomorrow. We have read and have also been told that crossing the Albemarle can be worse than the Gulf. Considering how bad our Gulf crossing was, this has led us to dread this part and we’ve been pushing it to get here as winds look very favorable for tomorrow.
