Day 196 – 4/17/24

Starting location: Morehead City Yacht Basin, Morehead City, NC

Weather: 61 am, 83 pm, light cloud cover to partially sunny

Ending location: Anchorage in Upper Goose Creek next to Goose Creek State Park, between cities of Washington and Bath, NC. West of MM 150 AICW.

Statute miles: 76

General summary: Found this state park from a North Carolina state park pamphlet while we were at Carolina Beach. From Morehead City there was a canal leading directly North that was well protected from weather. This shortened the distance to the Neuse River and reduced the total exposure in large Pamlico Sound. Fortunately, the winds were light anyway and we made around it West on the Pamlico River to our sheltered anchorage near a fishing dock at the park. We anchored in 4 feet of depth and took the dinghy down. Very still water with little tide change so could row to shore and didn’t need the motor. Bright, warm, sunny day and did a hike surrounded by tall trees, mostly pines. Somewhere over the last 100 miles the palm trees disappeared.

Forrest
Love the puzzle-piece style bark
In the past, the forrest trees were heavily harvested for ship building and turpentine manufacturing.
It was warm that afternoon.
Cocoa thought so, too
Cocoa’s solution (though Alligators still exist in NC, they are less prevalent than in Florida)
