Day 188 – 4/9/24

Starting location: Moored in Hazzard Marina, Georgetown, SC.

Weather: 53 am, 76 pm, thin cloud cover

Ending location: Anchorage in Waccamaw River, off approximately MM 390 AICW.

Statute miles: Approximately 16

General summary: There were strong winds predicted in a few days, so we made reservations to be in a protected marina just short of Cape Fear by then. Couldn’t get there in one day, so found an anchorage with shore access and a trail about 20 miles away, up the ICW. This is a popular place in the summer for small boats to beach and party. On the way in, we saw a floating fast food pontoon boat (not currently operating) which likely caters to that crowd. On arrival to the spot, we set anchor in about 17 feet. At times the current got to 2mph but we held steady. Rowed Cocoa to shore on slack tides and walked around. Two sailboats anchored there later, as well, but they were respectful with distance and noise, which we very much appreciated. Quiet, restful night.

Boater information: Some reviews noted anchors got stuck on submerged logs. Best place is in front of sandy area. We had no problem.

Wishing you the best of weather and calm waters. Saw trees with that moss when we went with a school group to help clean up after Hurricane Katrina. Hugs and kisses, Mom

hi Tom and Lisa. When you get up as far as Virginia I wonder if you’re going to go past Langley Air Force Base. It is close to the Back River. Not sure if you’re going that route. But there is news that a swarm of UFOs have been circling around the Air Force Base recently. Maybe you will see them if you go past there.
