General summary: Long day of motoring to get to the “free” dock in downtown Savannah. We got the last open spot and called the posted number to register and found out they just started charging $1.50 a foot with a 48 hour stay limit. It was in a great location and there was dockside power, so it was worth it. Met several other Loopers.

Walked around downtown and the historic district.

Took a city tour bus. Was hoping to get more information on old history, but this guide seemed more interested in pointing out areas and buildings used in movies. (Bench in “Forrest Gump”. Restaurant in “Something to Talk About”. Numerous places for “In the Garden of Good and Evil”.) There were many buildings from civil war times. Beautiful architecture.

A lot of downtown is part of SCAD, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and students were bustling about.
There were scores of tourist shops, bars, and restaurants. I made sure to have some peach gelato before leaving Georgia.
Boater information: The city dock is in a great location. Room for about 5 typical “looper” boats. Side tie. Power stalls worked. No water, security, bathrooms, gas. Surprisingly not too noisy at night. Now $1.50 per foot (includes electric). Only big complaint was frequent wake from passing ferry boats. The larger container ships moved so slowly they were not a problem.
