Day 174 – 3/26/24

Starting location: Jekyll Island Marina. Jekyll Island, GA.

Weather: 63 am, 73 pm, mostly cloudy with some sun breaks, winds calming

Ending location: Anchorage on South Newport River, GA. MM 630 AICW.

Statute miles: Approximately 55

General summary: We departed Jekyll Island and bypassed Brunswick, GA, as winds were predicted to be bad in two days, which might have made crossing Sapelo Sound challenging. Planned to anchor on Crescent River, but it was too exposed and choppy, so motored further to a spot which was supposed to have a sandy beach.

Leaving Jekyll Island. This bridge now crosses over from Brunswick, so it is easy to drive on and off the island now.

On the shore, we saw some things scurrying about into muddy holes at low tide. These turned out to be fiddler crabs. They were only about 2 inches long and have a large white claw on only one side.

Boater information:

Great holding at anchorage. Small sandy area for dog relief, but mixed with mud, so needed to rinse off paws and soles of shoes. Quiet, peaceful.
