Day 154 – 3/6/24

Starting location: Harbortown Marina – Canaveral. Merritt Island, FL

Weather: 67 am, 77 pm, rainy overnight, overcast am, partly cloudy by afternoon.

Ending location: Anchorage just East of New Smyrna, FL. MM 846 AICW.

Statute miles: Approximately 45

General summary: One of the things we do as we are getting ready to depart a marina is detach the power cord from the dock stand on one side and the boat outlet on the other, then stow it until the next marina. Today, Tom had a hard time removing the plug from the boat outlet and noted darkening on one hole with some plastic melted. We let the marina manager know and they checked out their side – no issues. We have had this cord since we bought the boat, so it likely failed. We were not pulling much power, as we’d turned off the refrigerator and put all the food in the cooler. Only thing we used were lights, which are all LED. No fuses had blown or tripped. Ordered a new cord and outlet. Package will arrive at our next marina stop, so we’ll be on battery power until then, which will be fine. Motored on slightly choppy but not bothersome water to New Smyrna and tied off at their public dock, which you can do for up to 5 hours. Two docks are available, actually, but the North one was damaged (“hurricane”). Walked about town. Some nice shopping, but nothing we needed. Enjoyed the sidewalk chalk art.

Sidewalk

Motored to an anchorage nearby to spend the night.

What broke:

One port of 30 amp cord fried.
Went to dumpster. New one ordered.

Boater information:

Anchorage
We actually anchored to the West of the anchor sign, North of the channel where you can see some other boats on this close-up view.
