Days 152-153 – 3/4-5/24

Starting location: Municipal dock at Cocoa Village, FL.

Weather: 62 am, 79 pm – Monday 3/4. 63 am, 78 pm, partly cloudy – Tuesday 3/5.

Ending location: Harbortown Marina – Canaveral. Merritt Island, FL.

Statute miles: Approximately 8, then 0 until departure.

General summary: Pastries and coffee for breakfast at the French bakery we found the prior day, then another jaunt to the grocery store. Motored to next marina, got gas, and maneuvered into fixed pier slip. Saw another rocket launch, this time with some daylight so better pictures. Space X put some Starlink satellites up into orbit. Since this was not a NASA-led launch, we couldn’t get in closer but had a good view from the marina.

The flowing day, Laura took us for a few dog friendly local walks and a great spot to see manatees.

Then, we dropped Tom and Cocoa off back at the boat and went to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. So great to have an insider tour!

Entrance to Visitor’s Center
Space shuttle rockets
Vehicle assembly building
Laura and I (launch pad in distance)
Touching a moon rock
Space toilet
Actual used space shuttle
Space shuttle cockpit
Crawling through tube the size of International Space Station connection arms
I’d consider going to Mars if you could have pets.
Drove past one of the Space X rockets being returned to be rejuvenated for re-use. Must have been from one of the launches we witnessed.

Had dinner with Laura at the marina restaurant before saying “good bye for now”. She made our trip to the Space Coast exceptional and fun. Thanks, Laura!!! Hope to see you again soon.

Boater information: Harbortown Marina has gas, pump-out, power, water, bathrooms, showers, laundry, pool, on-site restaurant (closed Mondays). Nothing otherwise within good walking distance, but Uber appeared available. No bikes or courtesy car.
