Day 108 – 1/18/24

Starting location: Marina at ‘Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa, Captiva Island, FL.

Weather: High 50s am, mid 70s pm. Mostly sunny. Muggy.

Ending location: Rose Marina, Marco Island, FL

Statute miles: Approximately 57

General summary: As we headed South past Sanibel Island, we had passed 0 on the Florida West coast Gulf ICW. We decided not to go to Fort Myers and then through the canals and Lake Okeechobee to Miami and instead head directly for the Keys. This meant going into the Gulf out of protected waters for a bit, but closer to land than our previous times. Weather looked really good to do so. Motored easily to Marco Island. This was a fairly functional stop. Did not plan anything touristy here.

Boater information: Navigating the waterways in the interior of Marco Island is confusing. Many navigational markers for many channels and busy boat traffic. Rose Marina is a good stop. Floating concrete docks, power, water, gas, pump-out, bathroom, showers, laundry. Easy walk to groceries, seafood store, hardware, liquor, West Marine. $4 a foot with 30 foot minimum, so on the expensive side, but the best deal around that area.

Do you realize how wonderful 70 degrees and muggy sounds right now. Wind still blowing 60 MPH out of The Gorge with chill factor of 9 degrees!!
Reading your posts warms us up.
