The Great Loop in a C Dory 25

Day 52 – 11/24/23

Starting location: Ingram Bayou, AL

Weather: 49 am, light cloud cover. Mid 60s pm, mostly sunny.

Ending location: Tarkiln Bay, FL, off GICW MM 166 EHL

Statute miles: Approximately 9

General summary: Gentle rain overnight, which was actually nice as it washed the boat off a little. The saltwater spray leaves a film on the windows and it was gone by morning. On the cool side, but warmed up as the sun came out. Some anxiety with anchor retrieval, which will probably be normal for awhile, but no issues whatsoever. Short motor to anchor in a bay next to a state park with a hike. Dinghied to shore to access it. We are now in the Florida panhandle.

8.2 mile hike
Whitetop pitcherplant, a carnivorous plant like the Venous flytrap. Endangered and unique to this region of the Gulf Coast.
Lonleaf pine, used for ship masts in past.
Saw Palmetto

Boater information:

Anchored at Blue dot in 6 feet. Easy dingy to trail perpendicular to it. Use All Trails

    Oh, I’ve seen pitcherplants at the zoo and in glasses cases at the zoo and a couple botanical centers. Never in the wild, though. Save for Florida, I’ve never been to any southeastern state: you’re getting a look at a bunch of only-seen-in-pictures fauna and flora!
