Day 41 and 42 – 11/13-14/23

Starting location: Kingfisher Bay Marina, AL

Weather: Overcast Monday. Drizzle off and on. 54 am. Mid 60s pm. Partly sunny Tuesday am. Low 50s. High 60s pm. Rain in evening.

Ending location: same

Statute miles: 0

General summary: Waiting in marina slip for oil change took an extra day. Marina was very busy, but they graciously worked to accommodate us for another night. Joined a large docktales event in the evening on Monday with about 40 other people. Learned a lot about upcoming Florida (from a Floridian couple) and eventual Canada stops (from a harbor host couple who live in Montreal). Interesting to talk to people who have almost finished their loops. A mix of sadness that the adventure is ending, but also a bit of relief to be almost done. That said, they all also seemed envious to some degree that we are practically just beginning. Starting to do some reading about the Florida panhandle. Keeping an eye on weather in Mobile Bay. Pretty strong winds right now so wouldn’t have been able to get in there yet anyway. Looks a lot better later in the week. A little anxiety when we heard Tuesday afternoon that Demopolis Lock was closed “indefinitely”, imagining we would be trapped here for weeks, but it opened up again by afternoon. Turned out they had a power surge and whatever broke was quickly fixed. Prepared to leave early in the morning.

In Mobile Bay. We don’t like winds much over 20.
