General summary: Took in pearl farm tour in late morning. The pearl is the Tennessee State gem. This is the last fresh water pearl farm in the U.S., started in the 1970s by a WWII vet who came home with his Japanese wife. Her family did pearl farming there and brought the techniques over after determining this was the most suitable location. Bob, who now owns the pearl farm, marina, and RV park led the fascinating discussion. The famous pearl necklace of Elizabeth Taylor, “La Perigrina” (with the exception of the large teardrop shaped natural pearl at the end), is made from pearls from this location. They have a great selection of jewelry for sale and provided a delicious BBQ lunch after the talk.

A bass fishing tournament was going on this weekend as well. Winners to be announced tomorrow.
